Do I really want to know what I say I want to know? It’s always been a dream of mine to have an integrative medicine specialist to look at my health in detail and advise me on what I can be doing to be in optimal health.
What better time to finally do that than now. I’ve always put it off, waiting for the “right time”. With the entire world experiencing a pandemic, how can I do my best to live and stay healthy? Now was the time for me to make this investment in my health. I put it off long enough.
I was ready. Well, at least I thought I was ready….
I thought I was in pretty good shape. Maybe I would need to address some hormonal stuff or food sensitivities. So, I hired a doctor/coach. I did all of the expensive, detailed lab tests, and I expected to hear that I’m good and I’ll only need to add or subtract a bit here and there. Wrong!
I always expect to hear that I’m good in many areas of my life. Like many of you, getting good grades, making parents proud, and having certain achievements make me feel good about myself and my hard work. My ego bristles at anything less than good. It’s hard for me to listen to negative feedback, anywhere. Even with all of the personal development work that I’ve done and continue to do, feedback is hard.
When I hear any type of negative feedback, I get sad, a little down, and honestly, feel like throwing in the towel and giving up. Of course, I never do. I always get myself back in the game and become more determined than ever. But the feelings are there and they knock me off of my game a bit until I activate all of the tools I have to get over myself and grow.
This pattern comes from the experiences I had in my early life. And, left unchecked, threatens to sabotage any and everything I want to create for a better life. Now that I see it for what it is and where it comes from, I can consciously choose to move past my damaging patterns so that I can achieve my goals of health, success, and happy relationships.
Even though I always seek to learn and grow, the path can be uncomfortable. What I learned about how healthy I am NOT, has me wanting to retreat and give up. I work so hard to make the right nutrition choices and for what? Why even bother?
The difference this time is that I hired a doctor to coach and guide me to what the right choices are for my body and the results I want to achieve. I don’t know what I don’t know. I may not like what I find or what I will have to do, but at least I’ll have clear direction and tools on how to reach my goals.
